## Latest issue

As listed on the page: [5 Questions on Context We Still Can't Answer](https://atlan.com/context-and-chaos/issue/5-questions-on-context-we-still-cant-answer/).

- The bottleneck to enterprise AI moved from the model in 2024 to the harness in 2025 to context in 2026, yet nobody agrees on what context means. The useful work is answering the practical questions practitioners ask in the same words regardless of industry, starting with how to make the business case to a CFO.
- Enterprise AI needs reliable, consistent execution, and an agent that is right 97% of the time cannot run a business process. Context is a system to be managed like code: modeled, retrieved, ranked when sources conflict, versioned, tested before release, and rolled back when it breaks.
- Once agents cross team boundaries, context becomes an operating-model problem: one skill update can reach outbound emails, website messaging and product copy. And because context is the customer's intellectual property, it has to keep its owner, permissions, provenance and version history when the company changes platforms.

## What is Context & Chaos?

A free weekly newsletter for enterprise data & AI practitioners and leaders. The field moved to context engineering; the newsletter moved with it.

Every week, practitioners working in the trenches share what broke, what worked, and what they'd do differently. Coverage: context graphs, data contracts, retrieval architecture, agent memory design, AI governance, and the full stack of infrastructure that makes enterprise AI reliable at scale. It is a community-led newsletter program distributed via Substack and LinkedIn to 20,000+ data and AI professionals worldwide. New issues land every week; all issues are free, permanently archived, and written for the people doing the work.

## Who reads it

1. **Context engineers**: designing the retrieval and grounding layers that AI agents depend on.
2. **Data engineers**: building pipelines that need to be AI-ready, not just analytics-ready.
3. **AI engineers**: deploying agents in production and hitting the limits of what foundation models provide out of the box.
4. **Data governance professionals**: navigating AI compliance without blocking teams.
5. **CIOs, Chief Data and Chief AI Officers**: making architectural bets on context infrastructure.

## What each issue covers

Three types of issues. One commitment: no filler.

- **Practitioner Deep Dives** (Deep Dive): an external contributor who shipped something real writes about the actual architecture, the failure modes they encountered, and the tradeoffs they navigated. Contributors include engineers from fintech, healthcare, media, and enterprise data teams.
- **Editor's Take**: Prukalpa Sankar, co-founder of Atlan, writes on what's shifting in the field: Gartner signals, community debates, vendor noise vs. actual direction.
- **Signal Pieces** (Signal): sharp recaps of events, research, and moments that moved the context engineering conversation. Short, sourced, opinionated.

No sponsored content. No vendor roundups. No AI-generated summaries dressed as insight.

## Written by the community, for the community

Issues are written by practitioners and leaders across the field (data engineers, AI architects, governance leads, technical founders) sharing work from real-world production environments. The team works with contributors to preserve their voice and protect specifics they cannot share publicly.
