Each heading is the time (mm:ss) that part starts. ## 00:00 — Asking Claude which Snowflake tables lack descriptions Let's take a look at how Atlan's MCP server can help your users interact with metadata and the metadata platform in a chat like interface. So you can see over here on the right I have, Claude desktop up and running and, I have Claude's, configured against Atlan's MCP server. So I can ask questions like, can you generate a list of the most popular tables in Snowflake that don't have a description?'cause maybe my task for the morning is, enriching my metadata estate and adding things like descriptions. So Claude will go, and leverage Atlan MCP server to pull and query Atlan for Snowflake tables that have, you know, lot, you know, a decent amount of query usage. That don't have descriptions. it will return a list to me like you see here, of tables that it thinks are are high priority, as well as business and operations, type tables. And then it will leave off and say that if you'd like, I can help you to generate some descriptions, if you'd like to use your own LLM as opposed to,. ## 01:00 — Generating and adding a table description with Claude The AI that exists directly in Atlan's platform. So I'm gonna say yes. please help generate a description for me for one of the, tables that I have in Snowflake here. And so it will go and query Atlan for some additional data about this table. Things like, the columns that it has and any descriptions of those columns, as well as, you know, any other metadata that may exist, right? Certification status, custom metadata, and things like that. You'll notice, it actually found this table that, exists in our glue catalog. and so it's gonna say, Hey, this table is likely the same, given that it has the same name, and structure. I'm gonna go even reference, any metadata that exists on that particular, asset that exists in Alan. So, it's gonna go and,. Do what it does best as an LLM, run some queries against, and, and gather all the context that it needs. And then go and, actually go at, add the description, generate and add the description to this particular table in, Atlan. So it will follow up and say, Hey, this is the description that I generated. I will even sort of, give some rationale around why it did it. And so if we come and search for this table in Atlan, nowI do a quick refresh here. You'll see that we now have the description that was generated, using Claude and Atlan's MCP. So you have the value of not having to live and breathe, in a dedicated platform. You can stay in your chat like workflow using something like Claude or your own GPT like, chat interface to, to perform some operations in Atlan. ## 03:00 — Asking Claude what depends on a Snowflake table Perhaps I want to do something a little different. perhaps I just want to gather some context about some of the technical assets that I use. So, I've just started the chat saying, Hey, I rely quite a bit on a particular table in Snowflake, trying to figure out what else relies on it so that I know, you know, maybe there's some bi assets on this particular Snowflake table, or maybe there's some upstream assets, that exists in, like a different layer of my medallion architecture that maybe I want to take a look at. So you can also use Atlan's MCP server and this chat like interface to go and consume. Things like lineage, and re you know, how assets are related together without having to go directly into, the metadata platform. So Claude and Atlas, MCP are gonna search through the metadata catalog, and try and find the particular table that I'm talking about. I can come and, you know, verify based on the database and schema, whether or not, it's, it's the one I'm thinking of and it, and it is, and it will then come and tell me about some of the direct dependencies it has in terms of some power BI reports, some Tableau data sources. And, and give me a nice summary of potentially what the impact is. I mean, I could be doing this from the perspective of a, a data steward or, or a data analyst. And I just want to know, hey, maybe there's some other assets that I can and should be using that have been based off of this data set that I use myself. I could also be someone maybe more on the technical side, and wanting to do, an impact analysis that says, Hey, if I change this table in any meaningful way. Like, what's the scope of what's going to be impacted? and this will give me a nice way of figuring out who I should talk to and follow up with if I do need to make this change.
