Asset discovery search - Converted

[00:00] The Asset Discovery page is your gateway to discovering your assets. The Asset Discovery page can be accessed in three ways. The first is by clicking on the search bar at the top of any page. The second is by pressing Command and K. And the third is by clicking on the Assets icon on the top left hand navigation.

Each takes us directly to the assets discovery page. At the top of the page, you have the ability to search for specific assets using the search bar. For the search matching, Atlan will match based upon the name, alias, description, and even the term linked to the asset. Once a search value is entered, below it, matching assets will populate in the search results.

the general search can allow you to find the results you are looking for, filter options for your search can be added to assist in limiting your search and keying in on the right results. For every search, you have the ability to limit based upon the connection.

Clicking on the connection drop down to the left of the search bar presents a listing of all connection types available to you based upon your current access [01:00] rights. Clicking on any of the connections will update your search results and only show results wherein the assets are from the selected connector type.

Additionally, if you have multiple connections for the same connection type, you can select a specific connection to limit your results by. While the most common setup is to have a single connection for each connection type, depending on your implementation, you may have multiple connections due to having different data warehouses or BI instances of the same type.

This gives you the ability to limit by those specific connections if needed. Depending on the connection type, additional filters may be present for selection. For SQL connection types, for example, once the connection is selected, you have the ability to filter upon the database or schema. Below the search, regardless of whether you've applied any filters, the asset type filter shows. This filter allows you to filter your results to only a specific asset type, allowing you to key in on only tables if you were looking for a dataset, or only terms if you [02:00] were looking for metric definitions that your company had documented in the glossary.

This filter is also a multi select. So if you don't know whether the dataset you're looking for is a table or view, you can select both to return the results from both asset types. Only asset types included in the results will show in the filters. So if a connection is selected such as snowflake, then the options for selection will update to only show the asset types of snowflake that are included in the results.

This is one area to be conscious of as when you use the asset discovery filters, they do not reset every time you load the page or change your search.
