# Data Products & Domains: Creating a New Domain

## 00:00 — Starting a new domain and choosing its cover

If you're an administrator, you have the ability to create new domains inside of Atlan. The creation in types of domains is up to you in your needs, based upon how your data products ownership should be. based. Some common examples that we see are by business units, such as finance and accounting or project where specific data products are owned by a project team. There's no restriction to the number of domains that you can create or what values you can utilize. Clicking on the products. Icon will take you to the products home page, clicking on the new button on the top, right of the screen allows for the selection of new domain.

Clicking, this will bring up the new domain pop-up we're in. You can set the information regarding the domain. Each domain has a cover associated with it. Clicking on the change button allows for selection of a different cover from a preselected list or allows you to upload your own cover. Next you can set the overall color theme from a preselected list of color themes available. You have the ability to set the icon for the domain.

## 01:00 — Naming the domain and assigning owners

This icon will appear when the domain is presented, both when viewing the domain profile. Along with, on the products homepage. So selecting a representative icon can be of benefit. For quick identification of the domain. The next field is the name of the domain. The domain name should be unique from all other existing domains. For each domain you may enter in a description. This should include information regarding the domain for data consumers, to understand the purpose of the domain and what type of data products the domain produces or what the data products should be used for.

The last field is the owner's field. This will default to the user that is creating the domain. Here you may add either users or groups as owners of the domain. Once the required fields and any additional information or changes have been made clicking on the creep button, we'll create the domain.
