## Editing Existing Data Quality Rules to Match Your Business Needs

Once data quality rules are in place, they’re not set in stone. In Atlan’s Data Quality Studio, anyone with the right access can edit rules or adjust their schedules at any time—making it easy to keep your data quality efforts in sync with changing business needs.

In the asset discovery page, we first apply a filter for Snowflake data quality where there are rules present to find assets that we may edit the data quality rules or schedule for. We click on the first result and the companion sidebar updates, displaying the overview of the asset and here we see the data quality rules. Clicking on it takes us to the data quality tab for our table. Here, we are presented with all the rules that have been created for the asset.

As we have a policy that allows us to edit our data quality rules, we click on the three dots to the right of one of our rules, giving us the option to either edit the rule, or delete it completely. We click edit and the rule pop up window appears.

*Use the Master Credit Card Invoices - First click on the Min Value)

Here, since this rule is a pre-defined rule, we have the option to update the validation value the rule is based on, such as in this case of the tax rate, and we may need to change it from it’s current value to a new minimum tax rate.

*Go to the Min String Length

If the rule were done through custom SQL, such as this min string length, when we click on the edit option, we are given the SQL editor, allowing us to make full changes to the SQL or even ask Atlan AI to generate new code for our rule. On the left, we can then update the name, description, validation, and dimension, in the cases where we make a core change to the rule. For both options, the advanced settings is available, allowing us to expand and update the notification settings for the rule, such as updating it to an Urgent priority to ensure that notifications are always sent when the rule fails.

We can also update the schedule for our rules at any time. Back on the data quality tab, we click on the schedule itself, bringing the schedule pop-up. Here, we can update the schedule to fit our needs.

With just a few clicks in Atlan’s Data Quality Studio, it’s easy to keep your rules and schedules aligned with shifting business priorities or updated SLAs—so your data quality stays relevant as your business evolves.
