# Data Quality Studio: Using the Reporting Center to Understand Data Quality

Transcript of the video at https://atlan.com/demos/data-quality-studio-using-the-reporting-center-to-understand-data-quality/

Understanding your data quality coverage at a glance is crucial for identifying gaps and pinpointing areas for improvement. The new Data Quality tab in Atlan’s Reporting Center gives you a high-level view of how well your assets are covered, powered by Atlan’s Data Quality Studio. It even highlights areas where adding new rules could strengthen trust and reliability across your data estate. Clicking on reporting on the left hand navigation and then data quality takes us to the data quality reporting. Here, we gain an immediate understanding of our data quality coverage and status across our data estate through the Data Quality Studio.

At the top left, we see the current status of all our created rules, showing the last run status of each rule. This provides totals of the number that last failed versus the number that last passed, giving us an immediate indicator of our overall data quality performance. Below it, any rules that are currently inactive will be listed, grouping them by the type of inactive, whether due to never having run, or permission rules where you have been unable to set up a schedule. At the top, we can utilize the connection filter to update the results to show only a specific connection, allowing us to gain a better understanding of how our data quality is affected by the source and pinpoint possible larger issues.

Below this, we see a more granular breakdown of our data quality rules, based on the different types of dimensions and rules. If we want to get even more granular and actually see those assets to investigate, we can click on one of the rules or dimensions and the sidebar brings us a listing of those assets where those rules apply. To the right of this, we get an immediate breakdown of our assets, those with and without rules. This only shows those assets where Atlan’s data quality studio is turned on and are applicable, so it gives us the ability to see at a high level how many tables and views we have data quality applied, and we can switch the filter to those without rule to see where we are missing.

We can view the specific assets for either by clicking on them to open up the sidebar tab. While this is a great way see our coverage as a whole, when you’re first starting your data quality journey, it can be overwhelming and finding the right assets to start adding to can be tough. This is where the popular tables section gives you a great starting point. Here, you can filter by the top 10, 50, or 100 and see those that have rules, but also that don’t. Those popular tables without rules can serve as a great starting point to start building out more data quality rules.

The Reporting Center makes it simple to view your data quality coverage and spot opportunities for improvement. It can even surface frequently used tables that are perfect candidates for adding new rules and strengthening trust where it matters most.
