Product introduction - Glossary

Steven Hloros: [00:00] hello, welcome to this product introduction on the glossary. The business glossary creates a single source of truth for understanding the common meaning of business terms, metrics, and processes. This solves many critical use cases for an entire company. Some being that it puts everyone finally on the same page with definitions, such as finally having an answer to what a client actually is. There are no longer multiple answers for the same metric calculation. It allows for faster onboarding for new hires by having a single source of truth for the company's taxonomy. Building out your glossary is key to being truly successful with Atlan.

The glossary can be accessed by clicking on the glossary icon On the left-hand navigation.

Here, Each glossary will be listed in a nested fashion. You can expand each glossary by clicking on the arrows next to each of the glossaries to see the contents. At the top, you can also select a specific glossary to limit to in the navigation. Inside each glossary, there may be categories, which are like folders for terms, [01:00] and the terms themselves. Clicking on the glossary, category, or term name will bring up its asset profile.

Here you can view all of the metadata enrichment that has been done to each, showing aspects such as the description, ownership or custom metadata. For terms, You can also view linked assets. Linking assets to terms allows you to create a relationship between an asset, such as a dashboard, and a term. This allows users to understand what assets the term is applicable to. By clicking on the link assets button, you can easily search for assets to link to your terms. You can also do this from the assets themselves by simply navigating to the asset and clicking on the edit or plus sign. For linking terms here, you can navigate the glossary hierarchy or search to find the term and add the link to your asset. Once linked, the term will show on the asset overview, allowing end users to immediately see the applicable terms and get important additional information regarding the asset.

You can even add terms to assets through playbooks. All parts of the glossary can be searched for directly in both Quick search and asset discovery. You can find glossary [02:00] assets, category assets, or term assets. Each has its own metadata associated with them. The glossary is an essential part of your team's Atlan journey.

And with that, we conclude our high-level walkthrough of the glossary.
