Impact analysis using the Atlan Sheets integration

Steven Hloros: The second method of doing impact analysis with Atlan actually does not require that we log into Atlan at all. Atlan brings the impact analysis and metadata we need into google sheets for us. By first setting up the Atlan Google Sheets extension, we have the ability to never leave google sheets and bring the details in that we need.

By going to a new google sheet and clicking on extensions, we can see the option for the Atlan extension. Clicking on Setup will then bring up a popup box where we will put our Atlan U R L. Once entered, we will be presented with two options. The first is enrich metadata, which allows us to select different tables or views, resulting in the columns from our selection to populate. We then can enrich the metadata of those columns directly from Google Sheets and push them to Atlan to update.

The second option is import lineage. This will allow us to select an asset and then directly import the impact analysis into google sheets. Not only that, it allows us to also update and enrich the metadata of those assets included in the lineage. This is the selection that we will choose for impact analysis.

By clicking on the import lineage the google sheet will update and a right side [01:00] Atlan explorer will appear. Here, we can search for the asset that we are looking to import the lineage from. We will enter in days_since_prior_order and our results will show. We can hover over the table name to confirm that we have the correct table. The top result is what we are looking for, so we just click the checkbox. At the bottom, we have the option to select the directionof the lineage we would like to import. It defaults to what we need, which is downstream, but we also have the option to do upstream or both if desired. We click import and google sheets will import all of the downstream assets for us.

The assets populate the sheet, giving us a ton of additional metadata for each asset, including ownership so that we can know immediately who owns those assets to contact. What's even better about the google sheets extension is that not only can we update the metadata, but we can actually create announcements on the assets directly from google sheets. By clicking on the announcement drop down and selecting warning, we can add in an announcement that the days since prior order calculation is being modified. We will select warning from the drop down for the announcement type and enter Days Since Prior Order is being modified on june 2nd, please [02:00] contact Duane if there are concerns.

By going to the Atlan extension again and selecting push to Atlan, the announcements will be created. We have now not only gotten the owners for our impacted assets to work to confirm the changes, but also created announcements of the upcoming change on all downstream assets all within google sheets.
