# Playbooks: Linking Metrics

Transcript of the video at https://atlan.com/demos/linking-metrics-playbooks/. Each heading is the time (mm:ss) that part starts.

## 00:00 - Why link metric terms to data columns

When metrics are documented in a glossary as terms, one of the most important steps is to associate them with data assets, where they are applicable. We find that many times these metrics align with specific columns or data fields. And so the automation of this is simple with playbooks by first, going to the governance section by clicking on the governance icon on the left-hand navigation and clicking on playbooks, we are taken to the playbooks page. Clicking the create new button brings the playbook creation. Pop-up we want to associate a specific metric.

We have documented as a term decent prior order to all columns where this metric appears, we set the name to linking days since prior order term dash weekly, to designate the purpose of this playbook in the recurrence that we are setting the playbook to run at. We clicked create in the playbook creation page opens. Here we named the role, the exact same as the playbook in case we decide to add any additional rules for linking metrics to data assets in the future.

## 01:00 - Filtering to unlinked columns matching the metric name

For a first filter, we select the attribute of asset type keep the operator of his one-off and then select column. We create another filter and select the attribute of name from the properties dropdown for this, we update the operator to equals.,as we are only looking for exact matches on the name. We know that the columns that how's, this metric are called exactly days underscore since underscore prior underscore order, which is also what we put into the value. Finally we add E third filter with the attribute of linked terms for the operator we select is not.

And for the value we select days since prior order, this keeps us from selecting any assets already linked today since prior order, which is the action. We will be assigning keeping our processing for this playbook to a minimum. Our asset match, count updates, and we validate the assets and the selection, everything looks good. So we move on to the actions.

## 02:00 - Adding the link term action and scheduling

We add the action terms, the operator of add and select the decency prior order term. This action. We'll link this term to any of our assets in our selection. We click on next to go to the scheduling page. Here we update the run to be weekly and select Sunday as our day. Since we know no other playbooks run on Sunday, along with our workflow for connectors completing around 8:00 AM. Every day we pick the time of nine for this run. Clicking complete creates the playbook and our schedule is now set to run weekly. It will pick up any new asset that may be created in automatically link those columns to our metric.
