# Lineage: Traversing the Lineage Graph

Traversing the lineage graph

Once you have an assets when you'd graft opened, you were able to traverse both upstream and downstream of that asset for as far as there is lineage connecting to other data assets inside of Atlan. By default, when you first arrive at the lineage graph, it shows any assets that are one level upstream or downstream from the base asset. The base asset that the lineage graph is based upon is represented by a house icon above its metadata details, allowing you to know at any time where the lineage graphs, original point of reference is.

If there are many assets, either upstream or downstream at an additional option of show more will be shown. Clicking on this will add additional assets that are part of the lineage. Depending on the number of assets, the show more may appear more than once for you to continue exposing more assets until you find the right one.

You were looking for. When looking to traverse further upstream or downstream in lineage, you have two different options to [01:00] expand the lineage itself. The first is the single expand represented by the plus sign. This will expand the lineage a single level and will also display the show more option. If there are many assets contained in the next level of lineage. The second option is using the expand all represented by two diverging arrows clicking on this will expand the lineage through each level until it ends. Along with showing all assets at each level of the lineage. It is a great option.

If you're looking to see the full picture of your lineage. As you expand up and down the graph, you may want to recenter the lineage graph on a selected asset or have it recenter to your original source asset. Both of these are possible by simply clicking on the target icon in the lower right hand corner of the lineage graph. In selecting either refocus on selected to have it refocus on the selected asset or [02:00] refocus on home to have it refocused on the original source asset. .

Additionally, if you expanded all of the lineage nodes, but want to do a reset to the original state we're in, it only shows one layer upstream or downstream of the source asset. Instead of having to refresh the page, you can simply select, reset to default view. If your lineage graph is particularly large and you need more room to be able to visualize it. You can either expand the lineage graph to full screen. By clicking on the double pointed arrows. Or use the plus and minus symbols to zoom in and out of your lineage graph. Finally, if you want to quickly traverse up and down a large lineage graph, the map icon allows you to click and drag through a mini version of your full lineage. Updating your view on the main lineage graph to match the relative position of the mini lineage graph.
