# Lineage: Viewing Column or Field Level Lineage

Viewing column or field level lineage

[00:00] When viewing table or view level lineage. You may find that you also want to understand the column or field level lineage associated with those assets. This can easily be done without having to go through searching and finding the column asset you're looking for and clicking on the lineage tab or icon. In the lineage graph for assets that contain lower level assets, such as columns or fields, the option to show fields or columns will appear. When clicked a list of the columns or fields for that asset will show as long as those columns or fields have actual lineage.

If the calmer field does not have lineage, it will not be listed. And if none of the columns or fields have lineage for that asset, when the view option is clicked, you will see a pop-up that lineage does not exist for those columns.

Once the sub assets list is shown, you can search for a specific calmer field using the search option directly above the list of column, [01:00] field assets. This will update the list to only show those assets that contain the values entered into the search. Additionally, if you want the list of assets to be sorted in a different order, you can click on the double arrow icon to be presented with a list of different sorting options.

To view the lineage of any of these assets clicking on any of the names of the assets, we'll update the graph to show the lineage of those columns or fields. If the parent asset, whether table view or other asset type. It's not currently shown on the graph. The lineage for that column or field will not appear until the parent asset is shown through the expansion of lineage.
