## About this guide

**The problem.** Data teams face ballooning costs from unused tables, duplicate assets, and expensive queries that run far more often than needed. Without a systematic way to find inefficiencies, the result is wasted storage, rising compute bills, and no visibility into which assets matter.

**The framework.** Atlan's cost optimization framework covers three moves:

- Identify and deprecate unused or duplicate assets
- Track asset popularity
- Optimize high-cost queries

Teams use lineage analysis, usage filters, APIs, and reporting dashboards to pinpoint dormant assets, consolidate underutilized ones, and right-size query schedules.
