**Use Case Guide: Impact Analysis.** An Atlan resource page; its description follows under the page's own heading.

## About this guide

A detailed guide to impact analysis in Atlan: preventing downstream data issues caused by schema or data changes. The pain it addresses: dashboards and tables break when upstream changes go untracked, eroding trust and productivity for data consumers.

### Two levels of solutions

1. **Impact analysis reports from end-to-end lineage** (page 4). Show every downstream asset (tables, dashboards, and more) affected by a change. Reports can be used in Atlan's UI, downloaded, integrated into tools like Google Sheets and GitHub, or accessed via API.
2. **Notify the right owners** (page 5). Ownership metadata identifies who to contact for impacted assets. Notify through Slack or Microsoft Teams, or create tickets in Jira, so owners act before consumers are affected.

### Adoption tip (page 6)

Embed impact analysis reports in CI/CD workflows. With the GitHub integration, approvers review downstream impact during pull request approvals, preventing risky changes from being merged.

### Measuring business impact (page 7)

Number of breakages prevented, mean time to recovery, severity of breakages across tools, and change failure rate.
