About this demo

This resource provides an overview of the different types of glossaries that can be created in Atlan, helping organizations design a flexible and scalable approach to managing business terms, metrics, and processes. By combining multiple glossary types with targeted categories, teams can create a single source of truth that improves clarity, fosters collaboration, and supports compliance.

The guide outlines three main types of glossaries. A Whole Company Glossary covers large-scale business concepts, metrics, and KPIs relevant across the organization, typically owned by cross-functional leaders and visible company-wide. Team or Department Glossaries focus on terms and metrics specific to a department, owned by subject matter experts but visible to the broader company to encourage collaboration. Product or Project Glossaries provide terms, rules, and processes tied to specific initiatives, such as compliance frameworks or product-specific terminology, ensuring alignment for both technical and business teams.

It also introduces categories within glossaries to further organize information. Semantics categories capture terms, phrases, and acronyms to align language across departments. Metrics categories clarify KPI definitions, business logic, and equations, linking them to datasets and dashboards for transparency. Policy and process categories contain rules, procedures, FAQs, and compliance resources, creating shared understanding and reducing risk.

By leveraging these glossary types and categories, organizations can tailor glossary management to their unique needs, promoting alignment across business and technical users, increasing trust in data, and embedding governance directly into everyday workflows.
