Template: Atlan Intro Workshop

This resource is a comprehensive workshop template designed to introduce teams to Atlan and the power of a modern active metadata catalog. It provides a structured agenda and ready-to-use materials to help facilitators walk participants through Atlan’s core capabilities while encouraging hands-on exploration.

The workshop begins with an introduction to Atlan and the concept of metadata catalogs, explaining their role as a collaborative workspace for data search, discovery, governance, and collaboration (page 5). It highlights common challenges such as siloed documentation, difficulty with root cause analysis, and lack of governance, showing how Atlan addresses these pain points (page 6).

Participants are guided through assets and metadata, where Atlan’s broad definition of assets—from tables and dashboards to processes, queries, and glossaries—demonstrates its flexibility (page 9). The search module walks through multiple ways to find assets, including business aliases, descriptions, linked terms, and verified certificates (pages 12–16). This section emphasizes personalization, tags, and custom metadata for tailored discovery experiences (pages 17–18).

The glossary module introduces the importance of shared language, with metaphors, structures, and examples showing how organizations can align on terms, categories, and compliance frameworks (pages 23–29). The data products module then explores how to group assets into domains and subdomains, assign ownership, and build trusted, discoverable, and secure products (pages 31–37).

Finally, the Chrome extension module showcases how Atlan context can be surfaced directly within favorite tools like BI dashboards, making metadata accessible where users work every day (pages 39–40).

By following this template, organizations can run engaging, educational workshops that not only introduce Atlan but also help teams understand how active metadata transforms discovery, governance, and collaboration. It balances theory, demonstrations, and interactive discussions, making it ideal for onboarding, enablement, or showcasing Atlan’s value to broader stakeholders.
