Key takeaways

  • Of 2026's 14 major AI conferences, nine treat context engineering as a real discipline; five run general AI agendas instead.
  • The Context Conference (October 28) is the only event built entirely around context: eight sessions, no product demos.
  • AI Engineer World's Fair and The AI Conference carry the deepest hands-on tracks on agent memory and production context.
  • CDOIQ and Gartner Data & Analytics Summit cover context from the ownership and governance side, not the build side.

Which 2026 conferences actually cover context engineering?

Nine 2026 conferences have real context-engineering content: Gartner Data & Analytics Summit (March 9-11), Snowflake Summit (June 1-4), Databricks Data + AI Summit (June 15-18), AI Engineer World's Fair (June 29-July 2), CDOIQ Symposium (July 21-23), dbt Summit (September 15-18), The AI Conference (September 29-October 1), the Context Conference (October 28, virtual), and NeurIPS (December 6-12). Five 2026 AI events, including HumanX, Ai4, and Big Data LDN, are excluded here because their agendas are business-of-AI or general applied-AI content rather than context vocabulary, architecture, memory, or production systems.

What this guide covers:

  • Nine verified events: dates, locations, and the specific context-engineering content on each agenda
  • Why five events didn't make the cut: the filter, applied honestly
  • A full profile of the Context Conference: the one event that is entirely about this

Building the context layer your agents need?

Conference season in 2026 has fourteen events chasing the same AI budget, and most of them will not help you build a context layer. A context engineer doesn’t need another keynote on AI transformation. The job is agent memory, semantic layers, ontologies, and context graphs that survive contact with production, and most conference agendas still treat that as a footnote to the AI story rather than the story itself.

This guide starts from the full 2026 conference calendar and keeps only the events with real context-engineering content on the agenda, not just AI in the title. Nine made the cut. Five didn’t, and the reasons matter as much as the picks.

Quick facts Detail

The filter: what actually counts as context-engineering content

Plenty of 2026 sessions have “context” in the abstract and nothing underneath it. To qualify, an agenda needed at least one of four things: named sessions on context vocabulary or context graphs versus knowledge graphs, architecture content on how a context layer for AI agents gets built, tracks on agent memory or semantic layers, or workshops treating context engineering as a discipline with its own techniques, not a synonym for prompting.

That bar is stricter than it sounds. A conference can run three days of AI content and clear none of it, because “AI” and “context engineering” aren’t the same agenda. General AI talks about what models can do. Context engineering talks about what a specific enterprise’s data has to look like first, the four write, select, compress, isolate strategies that make it possible.

Why five 2026 AI conferences didn’t make this list

Excluding an event isn’t a knock on it. HumanX, Ai4, Big Data LDN, World Summit AI, and Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo all serve real audiences; they just aren’t this one.

HumanX (April 6-9, San Francisco) runs the business-of-AI agenda, adoption economics and workforce transformation (HumanX, 2026), useful for business context for AI budget conversations and thin on architecture. Ai4 (August 4-6, Las Vegas) projects 12,000+ attendees across every industry vertical (Ai4, 2026), built for breadth over depth. Big Data LDN (September 23-24, London) draws 20,000+ open-registration visitors (Big Data LDN, 2026), a strong European market scan without a named context-architecture track. World Summit AI (October 7-8, Amsterdam) covers policy and sovereign AI (World Summit AI, 2026), not implementation. Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo (October 19-22, Orlando) is a CIO budget-setting event (Gartner, 2026), one level above the people building the enterprise data graph itself.

If your job is closing the context gap, none of these five earn a full day. Read the recap, and send whoever owns the budget conversation instead of the build.

1. Gartner Data & Analytics Summit: March 9–11, Orlando

Permalink to “1. Gartner Data & Analytics Summit: March 9–11, Orlando”

Gartner’s Orlando summit opened the 2026 season with more than 60 Gartner analysts on the program at the Gaylord Palms Resort (Gartner, 2026). Its context content lives in the analyst research track rather than in a builder workshop.

Context-engineering angle: Gartner’s framing of context graphs as governance infrastructure moved to the center of the roadmap conversation this year, alongside the ROI case for context investment. Our full key takeaways cover the rest of the agenda.

Who should go: D&A leaders who need analyst vocabulary to defend a context-layer budget line. Skip it once you have buy-in and need implementation detail instead.

2. Snowflake Summit: June 1–4, San Francisco

Permalink to “2. Snowflake Summit: June 1–4, San Francisco”

Snowflake Summit ran 500+ sessions across 12 tracks under the theme “Making AI Real for Business,” the opening act of June’s three-conference San Francisco corridor (Moscone Center, 2026).

Context-engineering angle: Snowflake pushed further into platform-native semantics this year, sharpening the practical version of the context layer versus semantic layer question. Our key takeaways cover the announcements that matter beyond the keynote stage.

Who should go: Teams on the Snowflake stack who need the semantics roadmap straight from the source. Skip it if your context work is stack-agnostic.

3. Databricks Data + AI Summit: June 15–18, San Francisco

Permalink to “3. Databricks Data + AI Summit: June 15–18, San Francisco”

More than 30,000 in-person attendees and 800+ sessions made this 2026’s largest data-and-AI event by attendance, with keynotes from the Databricks co-founders, Satya Nadella, and PepsiCo’s Global Chief Data and AI Officer (Moscone Center, 2026).

Context-engineering angle: The through-line across four days was the platform race to own enterprise context, the same question behind data catalog versus context layer. Our key takeaways distill what actually shipped versus what was framing.

Who should go: Databricks-stack platform leaders tracking the vendor context-layer land grab. Scale is the tradeoff; 30,000 attendees means your meetings need engineering in advance.

4. AI Engineer World’s Fair: June 29–July 2, San Francisco

Permalink to “4. AI Engineer World’s Fair: June 29–July 2, San Francisco”

Billed as the largest technical AI conference, with 6,000+ engineers, 29 tracks, and 300 speakers, this closed June’s San Francisco corridor with the most hands-on agenda of the three summits (AI Engineer, 2026).

Context-engineering angle: This is the deepest practitioner agenda on this entire list. Workshops treated context engineering as a discipline in its own right, with dedicated tracks on agent memory and evals rather than a passing mention inside a broader AI track. The write, select, compress, isolate strategies that came out of these rooms are now the shared vocabulary across the field.

Who should go: AI builders and anyone who has to build an agent harness this quarter. If your team is past strategy slides and into shipping, this is the one event on this list you shouldn’t skip.

5. CDOIQ Symposium: July 21–23, Cambridge, MA

Permalink to “5. CDOIQ Symposium: July 21–23, Cambridge, MA”

The chief data officer community’s own event drew roughly 2,500 attendees to its 20th edition at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge (CDOIQ, 2026).

Context-engineering angle: The urgent question wasn’t build technique, it was who owns the context layer, data teams or AI teams, with the ROI case close behind. That fight decides whether context engineering gets funded as a real function.

Who should go: CDOs deciding where context engineering sits on the org chart. Skip it for build-level detail; this room argues governance, not code.

6. dbt Summit: September 15–18, Las Vegas

Permalink to “6. dbt Summit: September 15–18, Las Vegas”

dbt Labs’ renamed Coalesce conference remains the analytics engineering community’s home event, running at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas (dbt Labs, 2026).

Context-engineering angle: The practical edge of the ontology versus semantic layer debate plays out here, in transformation-layer terms rather than abstract ones. If your team’s context work starts in the warehouse, this is where the vocabulary gets tested against real pipelines.

Who should go: Analytics engineers already invested in dbt. Skip it entirely otherwise; the content is excellent and unapologetically ecosystem-specific.

7. The AI Conference: September 29–October 1, San Francisco

Permalink to “7. The AI Conference: September 29–October 1, San Francisco”

A curated 5,500-attendee counterweight to the mega-events, with 120+ speakers across five tracks spanning AGI research to applied agentic AI (The AI Conference, 2026).

Context-engineering angle: The agentic track pairs directly with context engineering for AI agents, and this is the second-deepest practitioner agenda on the list behind AI Engineer World’s Fair. Sessions assume production experience, not a first introduction to agents.

Who should go: Technical leaders who want frontier signal without a 12,000-person expo floor. Skip it for enterprise-vertical or CDO peer content instead.

8. Context Conference: October 28, virtual

Permalink to “8. Context Conference: October 28, virtual”

Every other event on this list treats context engineering as one important track. The Context Conference, Atlan’s virtual community event now in its first year, treats it as the entire agenda: eight sessions, three hours, no sponsored slots, and no product demos (Atlan, 2026).

Time (ET) Session Speaker(s)
11:00 AM Opening keynote: Enterprise AI is missing a context layer Prukalpa Sankar, Atlan
11:20 AM Executive decision room: Why invest in context? Cindy Hoots, Leigh-Ann Russell
11:50 AM Architecture deep dive: Inside Verizon’s context architecture Verizon data and AI leadership
12:20 PM Field report: What 200 CIO conversations taught me after context graphs went viral Jaya Gupta
12:35 PM Ecosystem debate: WTF is the context layer, really? Cross-industry panel
1:05 PM Deep dive: The market map of context platforms Lonne Jaffe
1:25 PM Ecosystem debate: Will open context interchange ever be real? Bob Muglia, Josh Klahr
1:50 PM Closing keynote: The Context Contract Prukalpa Sankar, Atlan

Prajakta Damle, who works on Open Knowledge Format, rounds out the confirmed speaker roster alongside the agenda above.

Context-engineering angle: The 12:35 PM ecosystem debate exists specifically to settle a vocabulary problem the rest of this list’s agendas assume is already solved: whether a context graph and a knowledge graph are the same thing, where an ontology fits between them, and how a semantic layer relates to both. The 11:50 AM Verizon walkthrough is a real production context architecture, not a logo slide. And the closing session tries something almost no first-year conference attempts: ratifying a shared definition the room signs onto, The Context Contract, instead of a highlight reel.

Who should go: AI leaders, enterprise architects, and AI builders who need the vocabulary and ownership questions settled before their next architecture review. Our full profile of the Context Conference covers the complete agenda, speaker rationale, and how it differs from Atlan Activate, Atlan’s separate product conference.

Skip it if: You need hallway networking or hands-on labs. A three-hour virtual program offers neither, and it’s vendor-hosted, so weigh the framing the way you would any other vendor event on this list.

9. NeurIPS: December 6–12, Sydney

Permalink to “9. NeurIPS: December 6–12, Sydney”

The year closes at the International Convention Centre Sydney, with satellite events in Atlanta and Paris running December 9-13 (NeurIPS, 2026).

Context-engineering angle: This is the research frontier behind every practitioner track on this list. Papers on agent memory presented here tend to reach enterprise tooling a year or two later, which makes NeurIPS horizon-scanning rather than decision support.

Who should go: Research leads, not budget owners. Sending an executive here is a category error; the satellites make attendance cheaper than the Sydney flight suggests.

The gap between nine and fourteen is the actual finding

Permalink to “The gap between nine and fourteen is the actual finding”

Nine of fourteen major 2026 AI conferences clearing this filter isn’t a rounding error, and it isn’t a low bar either. It means most 2026 AI programming still treats context as an afterthought to the model story, when the enterprise context layer is what actually decides whether an AI initiative reaches production or dies in a pilot. Read the nine agendas side by side and the pattern holds from Gartner’s analyst framing to AI Engineer’s workshop floor: contextual intelligence is the dependency every one of these rooms keeps circling back to.

That gap is also a scheduling gift. A context engineer doesn’t need five conferences in 2026. One deep practitioner event, AI Engineer World’s Fair or The AI Conference, plus three virtual hours at the Context Conference, covers more ground than a five-city tour of general AI keynotes. Everything else on the excluded list is worth a recap, not a week of travel.

Still arguing over what a business context layer even is before anyone on your team argues vocabulary on a panel? Start with how to implement an enterprise context layer and why agents need one. Teams that arrive having already tested their agent harness against a real context gap ask sharper questions than teams collecting slide decks.

FAQs about context engineering conferences in 2026

1. Which 2026 conferences actually cover context engineering, not just AI in general?

Permalink to “1. Which 2026 conferences actually cover context engineering, not just AI in general?”

Nine of the fourteen major 2026 AI conferences have sessions on context vocabulary, architecture, agent memory, semantic layers, or ontologies: Gartner Data & Analytics Summit, Snowflake Summit, Databricks Data + AI Summit, AI Engineer World’s Fair, CDOIQ Symposium, dbt Summit, The AI Conference, the Context Conference, and NeurIPS. The other five run general AI, business, or CIO-budget agendas instead.

2. Is the Context Conference the only 2026 event dedicated entirely to context engineering?

Permalink to “2. Is the Context Conference the only 2026 event dedicated entirely to context engineering?”

Yes. Every other event on this list covers context engineering as one track among many, alongside platform news, governance, or research. The Context Conference on October 28 devotes all eight of its sessions to context: vocabulary, ownership, one production architecture, and the market map of context platforms.

3. Should a context engineer go to AI Engineer World’s Fair or the Context Conference?

Permalink to “3. Should a context engineer go to AI Engineer World’s Fair or the Context Conference?”

Both, if the calendar allows it, because they answer different questions. AI Engineer World’s Fair runs hands-on workshops on agent memory, evals, and production patterns across 29 tracks. The Context Conference is three virtual hours focused on the vocabulary and ownership questions those same workshops assume are already settled.

4. Why aren’t Ai4 and Big Data LDN on this list?

Permalink to “4. Why aren’t Ai4 and Big Data LDN on this list?”

Both are large, open events with genuine value, just not for context-engineering content specifically. Ai4 optimizes for cross-industry breadth over technical depth, and Big Data LDN’s strength is UK and European market scanning across every seniority level. Neither publishes sessions on context architecture, agent memory, or semantic layers as a named track.

5. How is this list different from the general best AI conferences 2026 guide?

Permalink to “5. How is this list different from the general best AI conferences 2026 guide?”

The general guide covers all fourteen major 2026 AI and data conferences for any AI or data leader. This page filters that same calendar down to the nine events with agendas a working context engineer would actually plan a week around, and explains why the other five didn’t qualify.

6. Are any of these context-engineering conferences outside the United States?

Permalink to “6. Are any of these context-engineering conferences outside the United States?”

Most of the nine run in the United States. NeurIPS is the exception, held December 6-12 in Sydney with satellite events in Atlanta and Paris, and the Context Conference is fully virtual on October 28, so location isn’t a barrier to either one.

7. Should I send an enterprise architect or an AI builder to these events?

Permalink to “7. Should I send an enterprise architect or an AI builder to these events?”

It depends on the event’s altitude. CDOIQ and Gartner Data & Analytics Summit run at architecture-review altitude and suit an enterprise architect. AI Engineer World’s Fair and The AI Conference run at implementation altitude and suit an AI builder who wants the interface, not the business case. The Context Conference is built for both in the same room.
